Timothy Njaksi Sr.
Timothy Njakasi Sr. is an agronomist whose career in sustainable agriculture spans decades and continents — from leading community rebuilding initiatives across Uganda to presenting before the UK Parliament on sustainable farming. After training at Riverford in the UK, he founded the Kasenge Riverford Organic Agricultural Centre near Mukono, a training farm and agro-tourism hub focused on organic cocoa, exotic fruits, and export-ready produce. His lifelong belief that farming is a vehicle for community empowerment is the philosophical backbone of Obumu.
Timothy Jr.
Timothy Jr. grew up immersed in the values of organic farming, fair trade, and community stewardship — shaped by his father's life’s work. He developed a particular passion for vanilla, drawn to its complexity, its roots in Ugandan soil, and its potential to transform smallholder livelihoods through access to premium global markets. With a strong commitment to traceable, ethical food systems, he is a driving force behind Obumu’s vision to connect heritage, justice, and commerce in service of Ugandan farming communities.
Giles Sutton
Giles founded GS Ecology, an independent ecological consultancy based in Berkshire, UK, and is a certified member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM). With over two decades in farm environment planning and sustainable land management, he brings a deep conservation lens to Obumu’s operations. His friendship with Timothy Sr., forged at university in the 1990s, laid the personal and philosophical groundwork for the company’s founding.
Arun Thilakan
Arun’s journey in organic food stretches from the spice fields of Kerala, India to New York City, where he brought that heritage to life opening Spice Village, a restaurant rooted in authentic, ingredient-driven cuisine. Along the way he developed deep expertise in organic and ethical supply chains across Asian and global markets — sourcing, connecting producers, and championing food that carries a story. That passion for heritage, provenance, and the people behind the harvest is what drew him to Obumu.
Chris Hanks
Chris brings over 20 years of experience building ethical, organic supply chains across developing markets — connecting smallholder farmers with international buyers through multiple ventures in the agricultural and food industries. His expertise in sustainable sourcing, organic certification, and getting quality produce from field to shelf flows directly into Obumu’s mission of creating transparent, inclusive value chains for Ugandan farmers.
